This is absolutely devastating. A female jaguar named Juma was shot dead after the recent Olympic torch relay, a new report claims. Apparently, a fearful Brazilian soldier murdered the spotted cat, when it allegedly approached him.

The jaguar had been involved in the ceremony in Manaus, according to TMZ, but when all was said and done, the sedated cat, which is normally captive at a zoo, tried to run free. And when Juma approached the solider, he shot and killed her. “The Amazon Military Command said the killing was in line with safety procedures,” according to TMZ.

Ironically, Brazil’s Olympic team mascot is a yellow jaguar.
