Rory McIlroy Pulls Out Of Rio Olympics Over Zika Virus Fears, Says 'It Is A Risk I Won't Take'

Rory McIlroy has pulled out of the Olympic golf tournament because of his fears over the Zika virus. The Ulsterman, who had decided to represent Ireland, had hinted he was considering his position over playing in Rio in August.

And the world No.4 has now joined a growing list of players who have pulled out of the first Olympic golf event since 1904.

McIlroy said: "After much thought and deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero.

"After speaking with those closest to me, I've come to realise that my health and my family's health comes before anything else.

"Even though the risk of infection from the Zika virus is considered low, it is a risk nonetheless and a risk I am unwilling to take
